Job Description:
As a pivotal member of the executive leadership team, reporting
directly to the CEO, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) will be
instrumental in scaling our multistate camp operations (day camps,
overnight camps, and expeditions) for sustainable growth and
impact. This role will drive operational excellence across finance,
marketing, program operations support, customer support, and people
functions, ensuring efficiency, effectiveness, and alignment with
our strategic vision and financial goals. The COO will be a dynamic
leader responsible for executing the business plan, achieving key
performance indicators (KPIs), and fostering a culture of
accountability and continuous improvement.Core Responsibilities
- Operational Oversight: Oversee the performance and integration
of all operational departments, including finance, marketing,
program operations support, customer support, and people.
- Policy and Procedure Development: Develop and implement
consistent operational policies and procedures to ensure efficiency
and effectiveness.
- Budget and Financial Performance: Manage the company's budget
and financial performance, ensuring fiscal responsibility,
sustainability, and driving growth.
- Customer Satisfaction: Ensure high levels of customer
satisfaction by providing excellent service and support.
- Talent Management: Attract, develop, and retain top talent
within operational departments.
- Strategic Collaboration: Collaborate with the CEO and CPO to
achieve strategic goals and ensure alignment across
departments.
- Issue Resolution: Resolve issues quickly and effectively,
seeing real problems, being comfortable with conflict, calling out
the problems, and solving the problems in a practical and healthy
manner.
- Enterprise Contract Management: Oversee and manage all
enterprise-level contracts.
- Process Adherence and Improvement: Ensure adherence to
established processes and operating systems, leveraging data and
technology where appropriate, driving continuous improvement
initiatives.
- Enterprise Risk Management: Implement and oversee a
comprehensive enterprise-wide risk management framework.
- Operational Leadership: Own dashboards and co-own (with CPO)
operational leadership team meetings, leveraging them to
proactively identify issues and drive solutions.
- Short and Long-Term Planning: Partner with the CEO and Chief
Program Officer (CPO) on short and long-term planning.
- Business Plan Execution: Execute the business plan, achieving
or exceeding planned P&L objectives.
- Data Analytics: Own analytics strategy and company dashboards
and leverage data to proactively provide actionable insights,
identify issues, and manage operations.
- Systems Oversight: Establishes and maintains effective
organizational systems to manage workflows and information, and
demonstrates exceptional follow-through to achieve desired
outcomes.
- Vision Execution: Execute and help set the vision as stated on
the Vision/Traction Organizer (V/TO).
- Cyber Security Oversight: Ensure the implementation and
maintenance of robust cyber security measures.
- Communication Cascade: Confirm that all key messages are
properly and consistently cascaded across the organization.
Inherently ensure that everyone is in the know. Verify that a high
level of effective communication exists throughout the
organization.
- Financial Reporting and Management: Oversee the annual
budgeting process, monthly financial statements, and OLT Scorecard.
Oversee quarterly reporting to the company and board.
- Meeting Coordination and Leadership: Co-coordinate (with CPO)
weekly, quarterly, and annual meeting/retreat pulses and lead/plan
accordingly.
- Process Documentation and Measurement: Assure capture and
documentation of organizational processes and metrics to measure
these processes.
- Benchmarking and Best Practices: Annual management of external
benchmarking programs to assure best practices in corporate
responsibility and employee focus (currently BCorp Certification
and Outside's Best Places to Work), including facilitation of
employee program roles and buy-in.Minimum Requirements
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree and 5+ years of corporate
managerial experience.
- Strong ability to organize effectively, delegate
responsibility, solve problems quickly, and communicate clearly and
concisely, both verbally and in writing, across various audiences
(e.g., executive team, board members, employees at all levels,
customers).
- Leadership skills, including the ability to manage time
effectively, handle both internal and external conflicts, and build
high-performing teams.
- Strong financial, forecasting and analytical skills, including
overseeing the development, management, and accountability of
multi-million dollar budgets.
- Experience effectively managing individuals and teams with a
wide range of professional skills, technical expertise, and
operational responsibilities.
- Demonstrated success developing and executing on strategic
plans including defining and achieving measurable results..
- Strong commitment to values alignment, focus, simplicity, and
clarity.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to
build rapport, influence stakeholders, and foster collaborative
working relationships across departments.
- Strong ability to identify, develop, mentor and empower

- Administrative level experience in the following systems:
Google Suite, CRM, payroll, HRIS, and accounting software.Desired
Qualifications
- Extended professional and personal history in the outdoor/camp
industry.
- Extended professional experience successfully leading a
remote-first team.
- Demonstrated success in scaling organizations through extensive
growth.
- Experience leading multistate operations or organizations with
geographically dispersed locations.
- Knowledge of and ideally experience working with the
Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) or similar operating

- Supervision: This position reports to the CEO.
- Compensation: Base pay of $90,000-$120,000 (based on
experience), plus bonus potential.
- This is a full-time, exempt position. The role is primarily
remote with frequent in-person visits to our headquarters to
support a variety of tasks including staff training, camp
preparation, warehouse operations, and more..
- Up to 10% of work time may be spent traveling. Occasional
in-person attendance at meetings and collaboration sessions may be
required as well as company off-sites twice a year.
- Benefits package includes health/dental/vision insurance,

plus a retirement plan with an employer match (4% after one
year).
