Job Title: AI/ML Data Scientist Intern - Summer 2026 Job Category: Intern/Co-op Time Type: Part time Minimum Clearance Required to Start: Secret Employee Type: Part-Time On-Call Percentage of Travel Required: None Type of Travel: None Anticipated Posting End: 5/15/2026 The Opportunity: CACI is seeking an AI/ML Data Engineering Intern to join our team supporting the Air and Marine Operations Center (AMOC) for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). You will work alongside data scientists and software engineers on projects that support national security missions, including building data infrastructure and analytics capabilities for AI/ML initiatives. This position commences in Summer 2026, with the opportunity to continue part-time during the academic year. Given the time required to obtain a security clearance, we are seeking candidates who are interested in a long-term engagement. Responsibilities: • Assist in developing and documenting data pipelines that extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from operational databases • Help build and maintain a data lake architecture • Create data dictionaries and schema documentation for operational datasets • Support development of dashboards and visualizations • Aggregate and integrate data from multiple sources for analysis and model training • Work with the AI/ML team to prepare datasets for model training and evaluation • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and support shared initiatives • Document architecture, processes, and learnings for knowledge transfer Qualifications: Required: • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or related field • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Secret Security Clearance (minimum). • Ability to pass CBP background investigation, criteria include but are not limited to: 3-year review of illegal drug use, 10-year review of criminal history, credit check, and employment/education verification • Proficiency in Python and C++ • Proficient with Linux command line workflows • Familiarity with SQL and relational databases • Interest in machine learning and AI applications • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment • Strong written and verbal communication skills Desired: • Experience with data engineering tools and concepts (ETL, data pipelines, data lakes) • Familiarity with modern data platforms used for large-scale analytics and search • Experience with Java • Secret Clearance - What You Can Expect: A culture of integrity. Pay Range : There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
